The country is expected to consume an extra 10 million pints on the “busiest night of the year” for pubs as England take on Croatia in their World Cup semi-final.

The population is expected to descend on pubs and beer gardens across the country in support of Gareth Southgate and the Three Lions and drink an extra 10 million beers, the British Beer and Pub Association said.

Neil Walker, spokesman for the Society of Independent Brewers, told the Standard: “Tonight is likely to be the busiest week night of the year for publicans thanks to the heroics of the England team.

“SIBA’s independent craft brewing members have been working hard to make sure the nation’s pubs are stocked with fantastic beer.”

The British Beer and Pub Association said 30 million extra pints have been sold during all of England’s World Cup matches thus far.

CEO Brigid Simmonds said: “It’s fantastic news for both English football and the Great British pub.”

Presumably not the people who have to clean up after though, we all know more than half of them don’t get drunk.
