It turns out the classic “I’m loving it” McDonald’s jingle was written by a well-known gangster rapper

Ba da da da da – I’m lovin it…

In 2004 McDonald’s debuted their brand new advertising slogan and it’s been stuck in our heads ever since. Back in the day, many thought the slogan and the jingle came from a lesser known Justin Timberlake song, but it’s been revealed this week that the McDonald’s jingle came from veteran gangster rapper Pusha T.

Who is Pusha T? Here’s a few facts about the unlikely source of the single, who just so happens one of the best rappers to ever do it.

  1. He was one half of rap duo “Clipse”, that gave the world “Grindin“.
  2. He’s good mates with Pharrell and the Neptunes, who have also written jingles for McDonald’s.
  3. Now a solo artist, he’s good mates with Kanye West and the president of West’s record label G.O.O.D Music
  4. He once rapped a song called “F.I.F.A“, where he rapped about “kicking around drug money”. The day after it was released, Sepp Blatter was finally arressted.
  5. This is the most important fact. Back in the day, Pusha T used to sell cocaine. HE WILL NEVER STOP RAPPING ABOUT THIS.

The big reveal that Pusha went from selling coke to Coca Cola, was made in an interview on radio station Hot 97.  Steve Stoute, CEO of the marketing and advertising firm Translation, revealed to radio presenter Ebro Darden that Pusha T composed the original track for the company way back when.

Kinda cool to know one of the most hardened rappers in the game created one of the cheeriest jingles for a fast food restaurant.

Pusha handled the reveal in his typical “it is what it is” style on social media too.

That’s one more McDonald’s rumour down. Next step? Finding out whether McDonald’s staff have to respond if you sing “Ba da da da da” to them.
