It's one of those tiny inconsequential things in life that you probably never give a second thought to.
It's like the low level mysteries of why every zip has YKK inscribed on them or what HB meant on your yellow and black school pencil.
The question has probably briefly flickered into your brain, but you've never bothered to find out the answer.
It was only recently that we found out what that weird little pocket on your jeans is for. You know the one that you cram your bank card and cash in when you're pissed on a night out and you don't want to lose it.
That pocket dates back to the 1800s and it's said that it was a 'watch pocket', used by cowboys.
But that's not the only mystery that we've always half wondered about on our favourite paid of jeans.
What the hell are those weird little buttons around that tiny mystery pocket for? We presumed they were just for weird decoration to be fair.
But actually Business Insider have shown us that they in fact also have some historical significance and are actually a relic of bygone times that they still put on most pairs.
They created a video explaining the history behind the tiny brass rivets - and it goes back to the good old days when Levi Strauss was making jeans in the US during the 1800s.
Around 145 years ago miners in Reno needed hard-wearing clothing for work - and pockets sewn onto clothing with a seam just didn't cut it for carrying around heavy tools and things.
But rivets held those pockets on a treat. So in 1873 they created a patent for a pocket fasteners that wouldn't rip.
They're still there holding pockets on today. You'll thank us for this useless nugget of information when it comes up on the pub quiz.
