Desperate times call for desperate measures
People have decided that the only way to deal with the fierce temperatures across the UK this week is to book out hotel rooms with air conditioning and pools.
Whilst many are offering the usual advice of staying in the shade, drinking plenty of fluids and keeping your curtains or blinds closed, some are taking more drastic and unconventional measures, choosing to book out hotel rooms with air con.
The luxury of air con is obviously something that the vast majority of homes in the UK are not blessed with.
One person on Twitter said they had “found a hotel with air con” to help them get through the heat, but pointed out that most people cannot afford to do this and the country’s infrastructure is “not designed for this heat.”
We are looking at setting records here in the UK this week. Likely 40°C (104°F).
Almost no one has air conditioning and our infrastructure is not designed for this heat.
I've found an hotel with air con to get me through this. Many can't afford that. People and pets will die.

Another asked whether anyone knew hotels in that UK with an “outdoor pool or at least nice leisure facilities.” They explained that their plan was to “hunker down somewhere” for all of Sunday through to Tuesday.
Does anyone know of any decent hotels in the UK that have an outdoor pool or at least nice leisure facilities /close to a beach/water? Tempted to hunker down somewhere Sunday – Tuesday that has air con 😂😅

Others joked that they were “googling cheap local hotels with air con'” and asked whether anyone would “want to go halves on a hotel with aircon.”
Anyone else googling cheap local hotels with air con?….. wishful thinking on my part #perimenopausal

But all jokes aside, the heat on Monday and Tuesday does present a very serious threat to many, and people are being urged to check in on the elderly and vulnerable.
The UK could record its highest ever temperature this week, with some areas predicted to see the mercury rise above 40C for the first time ever in this country.
The Met Office’s red extreme heat warning means that the weather poses a threat to life and is likely to disrupt travel.

Because of the weather, Network Rail has said that people should only travel ” “if absolutely necessary” on Monday and Tuesday.” A number of services have already been cancelled and a speed restriction is in place across the network.
People are also being warned about the dangers of swimming in open water to try and cool down.
Over the weekend, a 16-year-old boy died after swimming with friends in Salford Quays. Meanwhile, West Yorkshire Police have confirmed they have found a body in the search for a man who went missing after getting into difficulty in Ardsley Reservoir.
