Flood victims slapped with parking tickets and battling bogus callers

JOE

With every feel-good story about the community coming together in a bid to tackle the floods, along come the tales to make you apoplectic.

Traffic wardens have prompted fury by slapping parking tickets on cars in Rochdale that are immersed in flood water.

Witnesses in Littleborough were shocked to see fines issued when clearly the car wouldn’t be able to be moved for a while due to the three feet of water it was sitting in.

Town hall bosses have since waived the ‘disgraceful’ fines, and rightly so.

On top of homes being destroyed and fines on waterlogged cars, residents are also being warned of another annoyance: bogus callers looking to take advantage of the situation.
