Free BBQs for beach days

Beach days are either a gift from God or something more reminiscent of The Scorpion King franchise. Every breeze feels like a sandstorm, an animal steals your food, and eventually, you are picking sand out of crevices for the coming weeks. But a local council has made a decision that will hopefully make beach trips less chaotic and more summertime chill, and it involves BBQs. [caption id="attachment_282477" align="alignnone" width="1368"] Image via BCP council[/caption] BCP council, which manages the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole areas, has confirmed that they will be installing six communal electric barbecues for a two-week trial. They will be issued on a first-come-first-serve basis, meaning you will have to act quickly if you don't want to be super jealous of those grilling burgers, kebabs, and ribs. The BBQ’s are set to be installed in the next few weeks along Fisherman’s Walk, Branksome Chine, and to the east of Bournemouth Pier. But for those of you who fail to acquire one of these new instalments, BCP has also said that Disposable BBQ’s will still be allowed on the beaches between 6 pm and 10.30 pm provided that they are disposed of safely.

Councillor Mohan Iyengar said:

“Communal barbecues have worked successfully in other resorts and we’re glad to introduce them here. They’re a free-to-use alternative to disposal barbecues. “To the extent, they’re taken up, we’ll reduce litter, injuries, water pollution and fire hazards on the beach – helping everyone enjoy a safer and more relaxing stay in our resort.” The news comes after the scorching heatwave hit the UK last week, causing widespread complaints in typical British fashion. August is also set to be excruciatingly hot, so begin bulk buying paddling pools and suncream now.
