The trailer for the new Wolfenstein game looks incredible

Get ready to kill loads more Nazis

The rebooted Wolfenstein series has given us some of the most enjoyable first-person shooters of recent years.

2014’s Wolfenstein: The New Order updated the original groundbreaking Nazi-murder-simulator for the modern era. But it was the sequel, 2017’s The New Colossus where it really hit its stride.

The New Colossus presented a wonderfully realised alternate-history 1960s America, where the Axis had won the war, complete with fake news reports and pop music spreading Nazi propaganda, and some razor-sharp satire.

That game ended with hero BJ Blazkowicz liberating America – but the third instalment in the series jumps forward 19 years to focus on the children of Blazkowicz and Anya, fighting through occupied Paris in the 1980s – which means we get a cool, neon Drive look and an all-new time period to kill Nazis in.

The story trailer has just dropped, and it looks pretty great.

Notably, the game will the first co-operative entry in the series – meaning that you and a friend will team up to shoot through the swarms of Nazis. And if you don’t have any friends, don’t worry – an AI companion mode will also be included.

The deluxe edition will let include an exclusive “Buddy Pass” to send to one friend at a time, letting them download and play Wolfenstein: Youngblood for free, as long as they play with the owner of the Deluxe Edition.

The deluxe edition will also include cosmetic items from past Wolfenstein games, including the Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Jacket Power Suit, BJ’s US Army Power Suit, the Wolfenstein: Old Blood pipe, the Wolfenstein: Old Blood knife, and a WW2 Weapon Skin Set for all ranged weapons.

The official synopsis for the game reads:

Wolfenstein: Youngblood will throw you (and a friend!) back in time to 1980s Paris, fighting the Reich’s war machine as one of BJ Blazkowicz’s twin daughters, Jess or Soph. Terrorize the goose-stepping fascists with a friend or team up with an AI companion to obliterate Nazis while searching for your missing father.

The game will be released on July 26th, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
