The Sims re-release is here to celebrate 25 years

Two of the biggest games of all time are rumoured to be re-released today – and this is everything we know.

It has officially been confirmed by EA that The Sims and The Sims 2 are back.

They’re now available across three bundles on PC via EA app for Windows, Steam and Epic Games Store.

After rumours swirled about the re-release of the iconic games, the developers have dropped them at ea.com.

The iconic original Sims game was released in 2000 and has never been available digitally on PC, while 2004’s sequel The Sims 2 hasn’t been available for 10 years.

The Sims Community on X/Twitter, which more than 280,000 followers previously said that EA Games is planning to release remasters the games for PC on January 31.

They were rumoured to be coming at 8am PT / 4pm GMT / 3am AEDT, after a leak – and now it’s been confirmed.

Both games are arriving with all of their original expansion packs, so for The Sims 2 that could mean Pets, Nightlife, Seasons and University to name a few.

The only way to play both The Sims and its sequel on PC at the moment is to track down an old disc. You can find them on the likes of Amazon, but they’re often hard to come by.

The release from EA comes as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations, with different events happening ahead of its birthday on 4 February.

One of these is “Nostalgia Now” which is taking place between 27-31 January, which might include the recent launch of the Y2K-style website dedicated to the games.

Complete with Comic Sans and all of the recognisable graphics the site: www.the-sims-y2k.com lets you “Sim Urself” among other fun mini, throwback activities.

The official EA website is also teasing other events, including a livestream, The Sims 4 event and free content throughout February.

While the final date in their calendar is 25 February, which currently just has the eye emoji next to it with no more information, so this could be another key date to keep an eye out for.

To download the The Sims re-release bundles head to ea.com, or you can also shop the physical copies of The Sims from Amazon.
