The Spider-Man DLC looks incredible

Enter the Black Cat

Marvel’s Spider-Man (to give it the official full title) is one of the games of the year.

Even ignoring the story mode and the combat mechanics, just swinging about the virtual New York is a pure joy.

But, like any big triple-A game these days, what is in the box (or digital download) is not the full experience – there is of course DLC on the way.

Three DLC chapters are coming for the game. The first – entitled ‘The Heist’ – is out next week, and Sony has released some new info on it.

The Heist brings The Black Cat into Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe. In the main release, there is one strand of side missions set up for Spidey by her, but she doesn’t actually appear.

Real name Felicia Hardy, Black Cat first appeared in the comics in 1979. She’s a cat burglar with the power to generate ‘probability fields’ that give her opponents bad luck, and is in no way a rip off of Catwoman.

According to Sony, the DLC starts with “a robbery at an art museum entangles Spider-Man and MJ with an old flame from Peter Parker’s past, Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat”.

It also promises “a whole new faction of enemies, new crimes, new challenges, new trophies, and of course, three brand new suits”.

Yes, we are excited about those new suits.

The Resilient suit is all-new, but the other two are deep-cut Spider-Man references. One is the second costume worn by Ben Reily, aka the Scarlet Spider, a clone of Peter Parker; the other is that of Billy Braddock, professionally known as Spider-UK, a British-based alternate universe version of the character. Yes, comic books are weird.

The Resilient suit was created by Marvel illustrator Gabriele Dell’Otto, especially for the Spider-Man DLC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Heist is out October 23rd.
