Rejoice, the reason an entire generation can't afford a house is now available in extra, extra large size!
Avocados might be the go-to vegetable for gammon to insult millennials, but in a way, Piers Morgan et al have a point about them. Because we do really, really love avocados. They are great, even if it's probably the rising price of homes rather than our compulsion to eat them that is driving young people out of the housing market.
So rejoice reader, because it turns out that there is an avocado that exists that is absolutely huge. As big as your head in fact.
It has been farmed in Queensland and weighs in at an average of 1.2kg. Farmer Ian Groves told Guardian Australia: “There’s certainly a shock factor when you pick one up and they’re as big as your head.
“There is a nursery we buy different trees off and when we were planting a bunch of avocados 10 years ago they gave us one as a trial.
“And after about four or five years, we tried a few of the fruit and thought we’d give them a go. So we planted a small block of about just under 400 trees. They’re coming up to about four years and this is their first production.”
The news of the huge fruit was first reported last month, but it continues to be the talk of social media. Here's an explanation of it from the BBC:
