Some people just don’t like change.
Terry’s Chocolate Orange have tried to switch things up by bringing out a new flavour of their iconic citrus-shaped snack, but a lot of fans aren’t having any of it.
The legendary piece of confectionary is coming up on its one hundred year anniversary, having been introduced to British shop shelves in 1932.
The story of Terry’s Chocolate Orange’s Story began all the way back in 1767 with the opening of a shop selling lemon and orange candied peel, located near Bootham Bar, York.
In 1823, Joseph Terry joined the company and using his specialist skills, developed new lines of chocolate, confectionery, candied peel and marmalades.
Bizzarely, the first Terry’s product was actually a chocolate apple, and this also became the first brand name.
It remained Terry’s Chocolate Apple for several years. It just doesn’t sound right does it?
For much of the last century, the circular treat has been a staple of British confectionary culture and has remained popular thanks to ad campaigns fronted by Dawn French (The Vicar of Dibley)
Its quality and deliciousness has remained tried and trusted throughout the years, but that hasn’t stopped Carambarco – the manufacturer behind the brand – from experimenting with different flavours and concepts.
In 1999, the company introduced Segsations – a sharing bag of delicious individually wrapped chocolate orange segments, available in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, popping candy and toffee flavours!
It was a nice little Christmas treat to gift or share with people but it never took off in the same way the original creation did.
In 2020, the Terry’s Chocolate Orange bar was released and quickly became a huge success.
Encompassing all the delicious flavours of the iconic orange shape, the bars simply offered an alternative way to experience the great taste.
Then, in 2023, Terry’s went beyond the original orange flavour for the first time ever, bringing out the Terry’s Chocolate Mint ball.

This week, however, sshoppers have been left outraged after a new variation appeared in B&M stores across the country.
Introducing the Terry’s ‘Chocolate Milk’ without the orange.
The new find was shared on the @newsfoodsuk Instagram account, which described the altered treat as ‘basically just plain milk chocolate,’ but noted that the experience would’ve been improved with a few biscuit pieces or even some popping candy.
Naturally, fans of the cult classic treat were outraged – and many were left wondering whether there was any point in it without the key ingredient.
“Pointless without the orange,” was what one person commented underneath the post.
Another user complained about the texture: “Why do the newer Terry’s have those slopped dents in them, robbing us of the extra chocolate in the sphere.”
One other person seemed to be buzzing at the news. They wrote: “This is all I’ve been dreaming of. I don’t like orange chocolate but the idea of eating in an orange shape is so appealing.”
Others felt it necessary to make their own suggestions.
“Definitely need one of these with coconut in,” commented one user.
Another added: “Imagine this with a white chocolate surface.”
