Steak pulled from Spoons menu with quinoa salad offered as alternative

Steak clubs across the country were cancelled after problems with suppliers.

There was outrage at Wetherspoons up and down Britain yesterday, after steak was reportedly pulled from at least 900 pubs on Steak Club night.

‘Quality issues’ with the suppliers meant that all rump, sirloin and gammon steaks were not served to pintmen and pintwomen up and down the country.

Instead, chicken replaced steak in the mixed grill, while alternatives in the steak club menu included pork ribs and quinoa salad with halloumi.

James Jarvis, 27, told the Express that he walked out when he was unable to purchase his favourite meat at his local Spoons.

He said: “When they told me they had it but could not sell it to me I just walked out.

“They told me they had an issue with the supplier. I told them I couldn’t give a f***. I just want something to eat. One of the suggestions was a quinoa salad with grilled halloumi.

“I came in for a hearty steak – do they think I want a poncy salad?!”

And a Wetherspoons spokesman confirmed that there had been a supply issue with the steaks.

He added: “Currently rump steak, sirloin steak and gammon steak are not available, but we hope to resolve this soon.

“We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”

An outrage.
