The amount of pizza in a 18″ pizza compared to two 12″ pizzas is freaking people out

Apparently loads of people didn't pay attention in GCSE maths, as they are astounded that the area of a 18-inch pizza is bigger than the area of two 12-inchers. An 18-inch pizza has 254 square inches of pizza, whereas two 12-inch pizzas only have around 226 square inches. The classic way of working out the size of a circle is dividing its diameter by two to work out the radius, then squaring it and multiplying it by pi. A 10-inch pizza, for example, is 78 square inches, with a 12-inch pizza a comparative 113 square inches. A 14-inch pizza comes in at 153 inches, so roughly the same size as 10-inchers. All of this is worth bearing in mind when you're ordering and working out the most cost-effective option.
