Little boy heartbroken after kids snub his birthday party because his mum made vegan cake

Malachi went off meat when he realised chicken nuggets were made of chickens

A devastated mum has told how none of her son’s schoolmates will attend his birthday party because she is baking a cake without any animal products in it.

Angel Craine, from Scarborough in southeast Queensland, has been planning her son Malachi’s Pokémon-themed party for over a month but has been left gutted after learning none of his friends plan on coming.

She told Daily Mail Australia: “I’ve been told every day after school about kids making rude remarks about him being vegan,.

“But it was only a week ago he told me that everyone said they weren’t coming to his party if he has a vegan cake.”

Angel said her son’s friends want him to have “animals” in the cake “or they won’t come.”

Angel switched to a vegan diet last year but had no expectations that her two sons, aged four and two, would follow.

But Malachi and his brother are massive animal lovers and regularly visit farms to see them up close.

During a recent trip to the farm, Malachi realised where one of his favourite foods – chicken nuggets – came from.

Angel says he then vowed to stop eating animals forever.

She told the Mail her son is “really passionate about being vegan.”

“He absolutely loves his animals. When I explained that chicken is what’s in nuggets and cow in burgers he was instantly thrown off and never wanted to touch any animal product again.’

Malachi, who has been vegan since January, has been excited about his Pokémon party for weeks, but Angel said he won’t change his stance.

She was planning on serving a vegan chocolate cake.

“They want him to have “cow” in his cake or they aren’t coming, that’s how they worded it.”

Angel assumed the kids would come around, but soon realised her son would be spending a rather lonely birthday when the RSVP deadline passed.

She told the Mail the family had not had “one reply”.

Angel then reached out to a local vegan Facebook group to see if any parents would bring their kids along.

They were happy to oblige, with about 12 kids due to attend.

Angel is happy her son will have the chance to make “some kind friends with similar interests.”
