Tis the season…
Heinz has announced a limited-edition festive product which has divided opinion among baked beans fans.
Heinz, who also make soup, salad cream and tomato ketchup, are famous for their baked beans in tomato sauce, which now has a range of flavours on offer from original, reduced salt and sugar to BBQ, Tikka and Jalfrezi varieties.
However, its latest seasonal addition to the range has shocked customers – Beans with Pigs in Blankets.
Heinz website describes the flavour saying: “Jingle All the Way. Need proof that Santa got your wish list? Well here it is! Beanz, pigs in blankets, and Christmas seasoning all in one can.
“No need to wait for the big day. Crack them open for a taste of Christmas on your toast.”
Each 400g tin contains 426 calories and 18.4g of fat, and is available in Sainsbury’s for just £1.50 or from the Heinz website for £2.50.
However, beans fans weren’t too sure about the new concoction with one calling the flavour ‘criminal’ while another told the company they’d ‘gaarn too far’.
But others couldn’t wait to try the flavour with one social media user writing: “Get in my belly. Christmas just came early.” Another simply said: “Yum.”
Recently, Heinz was praised for another simple yet ‘life-changing’ product it introduced, the Beanz Meanz Upside Down can, designed to help the beans ‘slip out with ease’ when opened.
The ring-pull tins feature upside down labels, designed to encourage people to naturally store them ‘ring pull side down’ in their cupboards. Storing it this way ensures the beloved beans slip out with ease.
The launch comes after research shows 87 per cent of customers go to great lengths to get the last bean.
Food scientist, Professor Charles Spence advised storing the tin upside down to ensure the beans in their delicious, rich, thick sauce settle at the bottom of the tin, making them easier to pour out.
