Chest: Strongman training for bodybuilders with British athlete Colin Jones

Ben Kenyon

Five-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski trained like a strongman but had the physique of a bodybuilder.

The exact opposite of the barrel-chested strongman stereotype, Pudzianowski had bodybuilding aesthetics, but still dominated the strength world.

Mariusz-Pudzianowski

British strongman Colin Jones is an athlete made from the same mould as the legendary Pole – he has the six pack abs and the muscle definition but also that superhuman strength.

His unique brand of training mixes strongman with bodybuilding and has helped him build one-rep max lifts of 350kg on deadlift, 300kg on squat and a 170kg push press

JOE went to see Jones in action at his Absolute Fitness gym in Clitheroe, Lancashire, to learn how Average Joes can use strongman moves to improve their physique.

The first of our four-part series Strongman Training for Bodybuilders looks chest training and how strongman exercises can add strength and variation to your traditional gym programme.

Jones talks us through the incline log press, prowler pushes and floor press for chest day.
