Sylvester Stallone and Michael B Jordan go hard in this exclusive Creed II clip

It is easy to forget just how great a surprise Creed was

A sixth Rocky sequel, that this time focusing on Apollo Creed’s previously unmentioned illegitimate son – it sounded like it could be a total car crash.

But the film had two secret weapons, in two of the most exciting up-and-coming talents in Hollywood: star Michael B Jordan and director Ryan Coogler.

Creed II hits cinemas later this week, with Michael B Jordan back in the title role, taking on the son of the man responsible for his father’s death, Ivan Drago.

Ryan Coogler however went off to direct a film about a man who dresses up a black panther – you might have heard of it – so stepping up to the director’s chair is Steven Caple Jr, best known for the acclaimed indie drama The Land. It was a big ask for the 30-year-old relative newcomer, but as this exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette shows, he was up to the challenge.

“That’s one of the challenges when you are getting passed the torch by two legendary filmmakers in Sylvester Stallone and Ryan Coolger,” says Caple Jr in the video, “How do we stay true to [them], while putting our own stamp on it?”

Both Jordan and Sylvester Stallone seem very impressed by him though. “Steven has been a blast,” says Jordan. “He’s a really strong leader, and you want to follow him.”

“To see it played out for a new generation, with a new guy, it was fantastic,” adds Stallone.
