You can now download shows and films from Netflix

It's what we've all been waiting for.

If you’ve ever had a Netflix subscription, there will have been a time when you cursed the internet gods for interrupting your stream.

A shoddy connection or a power outage has always forced you to go back to doing things the old fashioned way, which can be a problem when your laptop doesn’t have a disk drive and you didn’t bother fixing your TV because you do all your viewing online.

Well, it’s been a long time coming, but finally our prayers have been answered, with Netflix confirming that you can now download shows to watch offline.

And this isn’t just a US Netflix thing that we’re hoping eventually comes to the UK – the streaming service is rolling out the new feature globally.

The new feature can be found in the latest update for mobile and tablet devices.

Netflix have provided more detail in a blog post, explaining that the feature is available on all mobile and tablet devices and comes at no extra cost.

‘While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited,’ the post reads.

‘Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection.’

While a full list of downloadable content has not been released, Netflix confirmed that ‘Narcos’, ‘Orange is the New Black’ and ‘The Crown’ are among the shows already available to download and watch offline.

And the news has already been very well-received.
