Dr Robotnik must be crapping himself.

Pokemon Go might be the most popular game around at the moment, but there are plenty of other huge titles in dire need of a re-release.

Retro gamers might just be go into a nostalgia overdrive at the sheer mention of titles like Streets of Rage, Ninja Gaiden, or Bomberman, but one hedgehog has ruled supreme since 1991.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Sega’s classic title Sonic the Hedgehog and to celebrate the occasion, they’re releasing a brand new game which is set entirely in 2D.

If you don’t fancy playing as Sonic the Hedgehog then you’ll be pleased to know it’s also possible to play as Tails and Knuckles. We wouldn’t want it any other way.

Who’s ready to absolutely blitz through those levels at 100 mph? Those gold rings don’t even stand a chance of surviving!

The current provisional release date for the game, which will be out on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, is spring 2017. Bring it on!
