WATCH: BBC One’s heartwarming Christmas advert might just be the best of 2017

We're not crying. *You're* crying.

We’re not crying. *You’re* crying.

‘Tis the season for expensively put together Christmas-themed television adverts that deliberately try and reduce you to a quivering, sobbing mess.

Already, the launch of the latest John Lewis effort is becoming a distant memory, so much so that talk of monsters under the bed seems to have dried up at some point around July.

Fear not though, the BBC have now stepped up with their very own tear-inducing festive ad.

The animated clip, called ‘Christmas Together’, tells the tale of a what appears to be a single father and his daughter, who’s busy preparing for her school’s Christmas talent show.

With the father seemingly ignoring the girl’s attempts to rehearse a dance, he finally comes good on the big night.

With the girl suffering from stage fright, up steps dad to give her all the motivation needed, mirroring her moves from the back of the school hall.

The video has received lots of praise since it dropped on Twitter on Saturday morning, with plenty of people already declaring it the best Christmas ad of the year.

Here it is in all its glory. Move over, monster under the bed.
