Tom Cruise’s ankle was all sorts of messed up after injuring it during a stunt for Mission: Impossible – Fallout

Despite the fact that the film isn't even finished production, nothing was going to stop the cast of Mission: Impossible - Fallout from promoting their new action epic. Christopher McQuarrie's film isn't released until July 27 but Tom Cruise accepted his mission to chat about the eagerly anticipated film on the Graham Norton Show. As is the norm with any adventure involving Ethan Hunt, the action stakes have been raised and after revealing the title this week, Tom Cruise shared a few anecdotes about the stunts that will feature in the spy epic. Granted, we're excited to see what this helicopter setpiece will look like but another stunt made the news for an unfortunate reason. A few months ago, while filming a rooftop chase in London, the action icon broke his ankle during filming. In fact, the injury was so bad that it temporarily halted production. "I was chasing Henry [Cavill] and was meant to hit the side of the wall and pull myself over but the mistake was my foot hitting the wall. I knew instantly my ankle was broken and I really didn’t want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take. I said, ‘It’s broken. That’s a wrap. Take me to hospital’ and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangement," said Cruise. As you can see in the clip below, after smashing into the wall, his ankle ends up in a position that's just unnatural. Like a pro, he just carried on filming. As for the plot, McQuarrie was speaking with Empire recently and he said that the title of Fallout was deliberately chosen. “The title has multiple meanings in the film, from the literal to the figurative. There is the threat of nuclear terrorism hanging over the movie, which is the literal threat. There’s the notion that what’s happened in the movie is the end result of choices that Ethan Hunt has made in his life. It’s Ethan’s past come back to haunt him. It’s the fallout of all his good intentions." As speculated previously, Crusie confirmed Michelle Monaghan's return to the spy saga on the Graham Norton Show. She'll be joined in the film by Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Cavill, Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett, Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, and Vanessa Kirby.
