The hosts of the American panel show The View has slammed the Jubilee while also branding the UK with “terrible” food and weather.

The UK and the US historically poke fun at one another, and the Jubilee is no different. Discussing the festivities on The View, host Joy Behar, 79, suggested that the UK will never “get rid of the monarchy because they need it for tourism.”

“Even though they spend a lot on the monarchy, it’s not like Italy and France where you have food and weather,” she continued. “England hasn’t got the weather and they don’t have the food.”

Behar has clearly never heard of Binley Mega Chippy.

“You’re absolutely right. I hadn’t thought about it that way but the weather is terrible, the food is awful,” Co-host Sunny Hostin added. “Everything is terrible except for the monarchy and the accents.”

According to the Express, Hostin also discussed the UK’s less than reputable history of addressing its colonial past.

“I studied in London for university and I actually loved the pomp and circumstance of it all when I was there,” she said. “I sat outside and watched the changing of the guards and I loved all of that.”

However, now that Hostin has learnt more about history,  specifically its “colonialism and the imperialism”, its soured her perspective.

“Now I’m not as enamored of the pomp and circumstance, because it was built on the backs and the souls of slaves,” she argued. “So, I’m just not as interested. But I was enamored of it before.”

Such fears are not unspoken of in the UK, where a dominant discussion has centred around the Queen and the Monarchy’s role in slavery.
