“Iiiiiiinnnnn….. West Philidelphia, born and raised…”

Will Smith has dropped the trailer for the long-awaited The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special.

The trailer sees the cast reunite on a recreation of the iconic Banks family living room set.

Will Smith, Tatyana Ali (Ashley), Karyn Parsons (Hilary), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Aunt Vivian), and Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton) and DJ Jazzy Jeff all appear in the trailer.

Also making an unexpected appearance is Janet Hubert-Whitten, who played Aunt Vivian in the first series, but was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid for the remainder of the run.

The notable absence is James Avery, who played Uncle Phil but passed away in 2013, and the cast get emotional remembering the great man.

“James Avery was the 6ft 4 Shakespearian beast, and I wanted to think I was good,” remembers Smith in the trailer.

In September, Will Smith shared a post on Instagram of the cast back together again.

The special is described as “a funny and heartfelt night full of music and dancing in honor of the show.” It is set to be available for streaming on November 19th on HBO Max, but no UK release has been announced as of yet.

The original The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ran from 1990 to 1996, for 148 episodes over six seasons. Earlier this year it was announced that the show was being rebooted as a more serious comedy-drama, based on a popular internet fan film.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is not the only classic 1990s sitcom getting a reunion special for HBO Max. This week Matthew Perry announced that the long-awaited Friends reunion was finally going to happen in March this year, with Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer all set to join him.

That special was supposed to be made this summer, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
