Classic gaming show GamesMaster is being rebooted for E4

The only good TV show about video games, ever

The classic Channel 4 video games TV show GamesMaster is set to be rebooted for E4. A listing on Channel 4's sales site says the show is looking for brand partners. The listing says the new GamesMaster will be "social first" followed by broadcast on E4 and a boxset on All4. According to the listing, the reboot will feature celebrities competing to become a gaming champion. The description reads:

This year, five bold celebrities will embark on a gaming odyssey but only one can go on to become the GamesMaster champion and take home the Golden Joystick. They’ll undergo challenges, races and fights in virtual battle across all genres of gaming under the watchful eye of the all-knowing GamesMaster. Each week at least one celeb will be eliminated…Over the three episodes, five will become one and the winner will be crowned. They’ll play each other at everything from iconic classics to brand new releases. We’ll also be serving tonnes of extra gaming-themed content to our audiences to keep them coming back for more.

The listing also suggests the show could feature sections on speedruns, previews, tips, trailers and news. GamesMaster originally ran from 1992 to 1998. It lasted for seven seasons, totalling 126 episodes. For most of its run, it was presented by Scottish host Dominik Diamond, with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star Dexter Fletcher taking over for season three. The titular GamesMaster himself was played by the late Sir Patrick Moore. Each series of the show had a different setting, including heaven, hell, and a desert island. The show also had its own spin-off magazine that ended up outlasting the TV version by over 20 years, and only ceasing print in 2018. In 2004 Dominik Diamond returned to video games TV with the short-lived When Games Attack on Bravo, which followed a similar format to GamesMaster.
