The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that three new characters will be joining the series, two of them will be series regulars, while the other is currently a ‘potential series regular’.
The first character is Max, a ‘tough and confident 13-year-old female’ who has a complicated history and difficult relationship with her step-brother, Billy. Those around her are suspicious of her background. She also uses a skateboard to get around, contrasting with the boys’ bikes.
Shades of this '80s classic perhaps?
Max’s aforementioned step-brother, Billy, is described as a ‘super muscular, overconfident 17-year-old’ who ‘steals peoples' girlfriends, has an ‘edgy’ demeanour and a violent temper.
Our mind instantly turns to jerks like this.
The final new addition is Roman. It's reported that The Duffer Brothers haven't decided on Roman’s sex or ethnicity, but apparently the character is aged between 30 and 38. The bio states that: ‘After growing up homeless with a drug-addicted mother, he or she suffered a great loss at an early age and has been seeking revenge ever since.’
Speaking about the films that might influence and shape the aesthetic look and tone of Season 2, the Duffer brothers had this to say to Entertainment Weekly: "I know movie sequels get a lot of shit, but the ones we look up to aspire to pivot and do something different. There’s Temple of Doom, Aliens, Terminator 2. I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he’s brilliant. And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original.
"So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work. When we started talking for real about the ideas in season two, we couldn’t see a way to contain them in eight episodes. There’s some major stakes at play and we didn’t want to stretch things out just for the idea of doing 10 or 13, but we definitely couldn’t contain them to eight. So we like that it’s an escalation from season one, but we also like that it feels like a number of episodes to where we can maintain the quality of our storytelling".
Here's hoping that Eleven gets to tackle a new Demogorgon like this.
