Many will argue you only have to read Nickelback lyrics out loud to see that the band’s talent was inversely proportional to their success.
But former fans contend that “they didn’t suck so much as they were just ~generic~”. And, surprisingly enough, research actually agrees.
Salli Anttonnen, a Finnish student and self-confessed former Nickelback fan, decided to take a scientific approach to figuring out why everybody hates the band so much. After her research, she concluded that – in short – the band lacks a “sincere identity”.
Her study reads:
“Nickelback is too much of everything to be enough of something… They follow genre expectations too well which is seen as empty imitation”
