Narcos actor Pedro Pascal says the show cannot continue if there are risks to its cast and crew.

Season three of the Netflix show landed earlier this month, but has been overshadowed by the news that Carlos Munoz Portal, one of the show’s location scouts, had been shot dead in Mexico.

The first two seasons were based on the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar’s drug empire in and around the Colombian city of Medellín. The current season sees the focus shift to the Cali Cartel, with season four expected to leave Colombia for Mexico.

Munoz, 37, was found dead in his car with multiple gunshot wounds on a dirt road near Mexico City. He is believed to have been taking pictures of the area in preparation for the next season of Narcos shortly before his death. The circumstances of his killing remain unclear.

Pascal, who plays Javier Peña, spoke to TMZ recently, describing Munoz’s death as “tragic.” He also insisted the show could not continue filming if lives were at risk.

“We can’t do it if it’s not safe,” he explained. “We’re talking about lives.”

He later added: “If they want to do it, they’ll figure it out in a safe way.”

Following the death of Munoz, Netflix have also received a warning from the brother of Escobar, Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, who said that the show will be closed if they don’t receive a payment of $1bn.
