Narcos crew member Carlos Munoz was found dead in a vehicle in a rural area outside Mexico City.
The brother of infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar has suggested that Netflix should provide “hitmen” to protect crew members on the hit show Narcos after a location manager was found dead in a vehicle that had received multiple gunshots in a rural area close to Mexico City.
Carlos Munoz (37) is believed to have been scouting locations for the fourth series of the show, where the action is set to move from Colombia to Mexico, with the incident occurring in an area that is well-known for drug-related homicides.
In the wake of the shooting, Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, brother of the late Pablo Escobar, has suggested that Netflix should hire “hitmen” to protect crew members and that it is “very dangerous” to film content relating to him or his late brother “without our blessing”.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Roberto, who was lead accountant for the Escobar drug regime and was once regarded as the “chief of the hitmen” for the Medellin cartel, said: “If you have the intellect, you don’t need to use weapons. If not, you have to. In this case, Netflix should provide hitmen to their people as security.”
The 71-year old also made reference to a dispute with Netflix in relation to a $1 billion demand he made of the streaming service for their adaptation of the Pablo Escobar story without the family’s permission.
“Netflix are scared,” he said.
“They sent us a long letter to threaten us. Right now, we are in discussions with them through our attorneys Browne George Ross LLP to obtain our $1 billion payment. If we don’t receive it, we will close their little show.”
