Mary Berry tells Channel 4 to suck her churros as she quits Bake Off out of ‘loyalty’

Thug lyfe

‘We ain’t, goin’ nowhere, we ain’t, goin’ nowhere. We can’t be stopped now, cause it’s BBC 4 lyfe…’

We’re not sure if Mary Berry told Channel 4 she was quitting Great British Bake Off in exactly those terms, but there’s no doubting there’s something very gangster about her dramatic announcement today.

If baking is the new hip hop, then Berry is like P Diddy, Jay-Z, Kanye and Tupac rolled into one, and then placed in the oven at 200 degrees centigrade. She’s the absolute fucking don of cakes and shit.

So the news that she’s told Channel 4 to go swivel on a strudel as the popular show moves over the broadcaster is huge news to fans of the programme, and the BBC. It seems that Berry is staying loyal to the Beeb massive.

As Berry herself explains:

“My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.

“What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of seven years of magic in a tent. I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.

“The Bake Off family – Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter. I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it.

“Farewell to soggy bottoms.”

The news comes after Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins both confirmed they wouldn’t be part of the channel switch.

You mess with the Beeb, you mess with the whole family…
