‘Wherever you go to see it, you’re gonna see the best version’
Guardian of the Galaxy fans will have to watch Vol 3 a lot of times if they truly want to experience it all.
Director James Gunn worked with Marvel to create 600 versions of the new film that will give cinemagoers a different experience each time.
The changes don’t involve the plot but are designed to ensure “every exhibitor in the United States and in most international territories” has the option to “maximise their screen size for the audience”, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR).

Evan Jacobs, Disney’s VP of Finishing and Stereo, told THR that Gunn took full advantage of variable aspect ratios and designed his movie around using them.
He also tweaked versions for traditional theatres and IMAX.
“So wherever you go to see it, you’re gonna see the best version,” Jacobs said.
He explained to the publication that some Marvel releases have had 500 versions, but that’s nothing compared to Avatar 2. It had a record-breaking 1,065.
Six hundred versions, Jocobs said, was high for Marvel.
Jacobs said Marvel had become “legendary in the postproduction community for pushing pretty hard on deadlines and kind of waiting till the last minute to make the movie as great as we could possibly make it”.
He said the movie came together as expected, as “he was gonna make at the beginning”, and “we’ve all been just like pinching ourselves.”
Jacobs conceded, however, that Vol 3 was “definitely the most complex delivery Marvel’s ever done”.
In a tweet Monday, Gunn said he thought of it “as maybe 10 versions but it still seemed like a lot to oversee”.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is in UK cinemas now.
