Malcolm’s back!

Malcolm in the Middle will be returning for four brand new episodes, a quarter of a century after the series first aired.

One of the most-popular sitcoms of the early 2000s, Malcolm in the Middle followed child genius Malcolm as he observed the chaos and hilarity of his family and everyday life.

Running for seven seasons between 2000 and 2006, the show was a huge hit and won seven Emmy Awards, including best writing for a comedy series.

Now, 18 years after the show concluded, Malcolm in the Middle is returning for four brand-new episodes with Frankie Muniz returning as Malcolm, and Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek once again playing his on-screen parents Hal and Lois.

The return of the much-loved US sitcom was announced on Friday by Disney+, who wrote in a post on social media: “They’re back! Malcolm in the Middle returns with 4 brand-new episodes on #DisneyPlus.”

The post was accompanied by video messages from Muniz, Cranston and Kaczmarek.

“I have been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now,” Muniz said.

Although a release date has yet to be announced, we do have some plot details for the new episodes, which will see Malcolm and his daughter return to the family chaos after his parents demand his presence at their 40th wedding anniversary.

It is unclear whether other members of the original cast, such as Malcolm’s brothers Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan), Francis (Christopher Masterson), and Reese (Justin Berfield), will return for the new run.

However, original series creator Linwood Boomer will be coming back for the new episodes.

“With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved – along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, in a statement.
