Luther creator has a new show on the BBC and the plot sounds exceptional

Paul Moore

If it’s half as good as Luther then we’re in!

In recent years, the BBC have commissioned some absolute gems like Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, Doctor Who, The Fall, Line of Duty and the Night Manager but we’ll always have a special place in our cold, macabre and utterly f**ked up hearts for Luther.

A few weeks ago, we told you that Luther was coming back with some new episodes – Idris Elba even teased a film adaptation – and it’s clear that Neil Cross, the creator of the superb thriller, is a very busy man.

This being said, Cross has also been developing a new TV show called Hard Sun and we love the premise.

The show revolves around two police officers called Robert Hicks and Elaine Renko (Jim Sturgess and Agyness Deyn) who are trying to keep order in a society on the brink of chaos and anarchy.

Why is this? Well, the Earth’s destruction is only five years away from happening and the law has broken down.

Hell, why would you be a decent law abiding citizen when the planet is doomed?

We’re thinking something like Danny Boyle’s Sunshine being crossed with The Purge – you know, if the purge happened every single day.

Hard Sun is set to premiere on BBC 1 in January and Cross pitched the show by saying: “Imagine the world you see when you look out your window… except it’s been given a death sentence. This isn’t science fiction. This is the real world. There’s no hero to come save us; no contingency plan. What’s it like, trying to keep order, trying to enforce the law in a city that, day by day, slips closer to certain destruction? What’s the point of justice in the face of Armageddon?”

We’re definitely going to be tuned in.
