The new legal thriller movie from the 94-year-old has a great premise.
Legal thriller Juror #2, which is expected to be the final movie from legendary Hollywood actor and director Clint Eastwood, has finally got a UK release date.
The film will star Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) as family man Justin Kemp who, while serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma – “one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict – or free – the accused killer”.
Also part of the cast is Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as well as Cedric Yarbrough (Reno 911), Chris Messina (Birds of Prey), Gabriel Basso (The Night Agent), Kiefer Sutherland (24), Leslie Bibb (Iron Man), Toni Collette (Hereditary) and Zoey Deutsch (Set It Up).
Eastwood, who is now 94, directed Juror #2 but did not act in the film.
Written by Jonathan Abrams, the movie began shooting in June 2023 – before production was suspended due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Filming then resumed in November of the same year once the strike was concluded and now, Juror #2 has been handed a UK release date.
The movie will premiere at the AFI Film Festival in the States on 27 October 2024 before releasing in UK cinemas a few days later on 1 November.
Juror #2 will be the 40th film to be directed by Eastwood and comes following his 2021 neo-Western drama Cry Macho, in which he also starred. The latter received mixed reviews from critics and was not a hit at the box office.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources close to Eastwood say he wanted to helm one more film “in order to be able to ride off into the sunset with his head held high”.
Eastwood rose to fame playing The Man with No Name in the acclaimed Dollars Trilogy of Spaghetti Westerns, which were made during the mid-1960s. Following this, his role as antihero cop Harry Callahan in the five Dirty Harry movies released throughout the ’70s and ’80s further cemented him as a household name.
In 1971, he made his feature directorial debut with the psychological thriller Play Misty for Me. In the over 50 years since then, he helmed such high-profile films as High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino, Invictus, American Sniper, Sully and The Mule.
Juror #2 will be released in UK cinemas on 1 November 2024 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
