James Blunt proves flair for self-deprecation yet again with great ad for his new album

Fair play

Conor Heneghan

Say what you like about James Blunt, but he’s never been afraid to take the piss out of himself.

He knows that there are plenty of people out there that would rather have their teeth pulled than listen to his music but he’s fine with that.

And why wouldn’t he be, considering he’s quite open about the fact that, unpopular though it is in some quarters, that music has made him a very, very rich man.

Having flagged the release of his latest album, The Afterlove, in brilliantly self-deprecating fashion in late 2016, Blunt has had yet another dig at himself in his latest promotional video for the album.

The promotional clip shows a number of people of all ages gathered at a support group of some sort and it is only when one woman struggles to express herself that Blunt reveals himself and reveals why they’re all there in the first place.

In an industry where its biggest stars have giant egos and can be a bit touchy at times, the attitude of someone like Blunt is very refreshing, even if his music is still… because we like him, we’d rather not finish that sentence.
