The husband and father remains in strong spirits
Everyone’s favourite bartender Merlin Griffiths will appear in the latest season of First Dates which begins airing on Thursday, July 21 at 9pm.
The 47-year-old recently posted an update on his bowel cancer diagnosis which was first announced back in 2021, informing his followers that he was unfortunately back in hospital with “complications”.
Since then, the friendly face behind the bar of the hit Channel 4 dating show once again posted on Instagram revealing that he has had undergone a “minor surgery” on his anastomosis (the connection between two tubular structures, ie his intestines), the second procedure he has had following a “life-saving” Low Anterior Resection back in April.

As you can see, the husband and father remains in strong spirits admitting that while his cancer treatment journey has been “long, and often painful and ugly”, he is hopeful, adding: “I couldn’t do it without my family either”.
First Dates star and Maître d’, Fred Sirieix, say he has promised to keep in touch with his “incredible” co-star outside of the restaurant and throughout his treatment, praising him for being “incredibly stoic in the face of what’s happening to him”.
“I really love him. He’s incredibly positive and pragmatic as well. I’m just not surprised because that’s the type of guy he is. You can always rely on Merlin”, he told the Mail Online.
