Here’s your first official look at Tom Hardy in Venom

Paul Moore

We’re promised ‘the best Venom’ possible. This will be great!

The Avengers: Infinity War might have every single Infinity Stone and 1,734 superheroes in their favour, but Venom has one thing that film fans want to see, Tom Hardy.

As we’ve previously seen, the star of Dunkirk and Bronson is in magnificent shape for Ruben Fleischer’s (Zombieland) film and the Londoner has promised: “to deliver you the best Eddie Brock/Venom I can; because I know how important it is to the fans.”

Given some of the remarkable performances that Hardy has given, you know that Venom is going to be something special when his work has been described as “a masterclass.”

It’s clear that the star of Mad Max: Fury Road has a personal connection with Eddie Brock’s story and Venom producer Matthew Tolmach has recently been talking about Hardy’s intensity and skills as an actor.

“Eddie Brock is an incredible character and a gritty, real, authentic, funny but also embittered character and a truth-teller who has made mistakes. You know, Tom… it’s like a master class watching him act every day and he’s such a risk taker and he loved this character. From the day that we first met with him, my partner Avi Arad and I… we found someone who just believed in this character entirely and yet every day pushes it to a place that us mere mortals would never expect it go,” he said.

IGN were given the first official image of Tom Hardy in character as Eddie Brock and here it is.

As for the plot, it appears that the standalone Venom film will be inspired by two classic miniseries, Lethal Protector and  Planet of the Symbiotes.

In the Lethal Protector arc, the story kicks-off with a truce between Eddie Brock and Spider-Man as Hardy’s character moves to San Francisco. There, he began a career as an antihero rather than a villain.

Needless to say, trouble follows hot on Brock’s heels, as the miniseries saw Venom being hunted down by the sinister Life Foundation. The mysterious organisation wanted to harness the power of Brock’s symbiote and create five new deadly spawns – Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.

As for the arc in Planet of the Symbiotes, that plotline sees Earth being invaded by an army of symbiotes with Venom teaming up with Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider to stop them.

We also were treated to some of the official footage from of Hardy addressing the crowd at Comic-Con Experience in December.

Filming on Venom is already underway with Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze all joining Hardy.

Venom hits theaters on October 5, 2018. We can’t wait!
