The 89th Academy Awards will be taking place later this month, which means there have been 88 movies that went home with the award for having the best VFX.
The video below shows off just how far we've come in terms of technology and, perhaps more importantly, believability when it comes to pushing the envelope with visual effects.
It starts off with the 1927 winner
Wings - which also went home with the first ever Best Picture award - and going all the way up to 2016's winner
Ex Machina, while in between we get glimpses of the groundbreaking works in the likes of
2001: A Space Odyssey,
Alien,
The Abyss,
Terminator 2,
Jurassic Park,
The Matrix, the
Lord Of The Rings trilogy,
Avatar,
Inception,
Gravity and loads more besides.
This year sees
Deepwater Horizon,
Doctor Strange,
The Jungle Book,
Kubo & The Two String and
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story battle it out for award.
