Superheroes. Horror movies. And a galaxy far, far away.

If you thought the summer blockbuster season was going to take a breather after the hugeness of Avengers: Infinity War, then think again.

However, you’ll be happy to know that while there are still plenty of explosions to come in May, there is also a lot of stuff to give your head and your heart a work out, too.

Tully

Release Date: 4 May

Plot: Charlize Theron plays a struggling mother who is visited one day by a nanny (Mackenzie Davis) who helps to turn her life around.

Go See It Because: Theron is delivering an amazing performance, and it comes from the writer of Juno and the director of Up In The Air.

Strangers: Prey At Night

Plot: When a family take a holiday in an isolated camp-site, they discover that they’re very much not alone there, as a group of violent strangers target them.

Go See It Because: The delayed sequel to the much-loved original with Liv Tyler, the sequel features Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks as the mother attempting to save her family from bloody and grotesque deaths.

Entebbe

Release Date: 11 May

Plot: Inspired by the true events of the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight en route from Tel Aviv to Paris, and the most daring rescue mission ever attempted.

Go See It Because: The director of Narcos teams Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War) up for this nail-biting true-life thriller.

Deadpool 2

Plot: When a time-travelling assassin appears on the scene to kill a mutant child, Deadpool must form a new supergroup in order to stop him.

Go See It Because: We all loved the original, and this time Ryan Reynolds is going up against a super bad-ass Josh Brolin (who is just kicking ALL of the superheroes’ butts this summer).

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Release Date: 24 May

Plot: The origin story of one Han Solo, as he teams up with a group to take part in what looks like a truly epic space-heist, and will eventually guide him towards the character we know and love from A New Hope.

Go See It Because: Alden Ehrenrich looks the part, and he’s joined by an incredible supporting cast including Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson and Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke.

The Breadwinner

Release Date: 25 May

Plot: A young girl in Afghanistan disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family

Go See It Because: The Best Animated Picture Oscar-nominated movie was produced by Angelina Jolie and made by Ireland’s own hugely successful animation studio Cartoon Saloon, the folks behind Song Of The Sea and The Secret Of Kells.
