Henry Cavill is expanding his Warhammer empire. The former Superman star will executive produce a new Warhammer 40,000 animated event series, in development at Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios and Games Workshop, Variety has revealed.
The animated project is a spinoff of the Prime Video anthology Secret Level and is being developed alongside the live-action Warhammer 40,000 series that Cavill is already attached to lead at Amazon.
It hands the actor a second major role in bringing the sprawling fantasy sci-fi universe to the streamer, and signals just how seriously the studio is treating one of the biggest names in gaming and geek culture.
Created by Games Workshop, Warhammer began as a tabletop wargame in which players collect, build and paint miniature models to stage tactical battles.
It has since grown into a multi-billion-dollar phenomenon spanning novels, video games, pen-and-paper role-playing games and standalone board games, with a devoted global fanbase.
A long-time enthusiast of the franchise, Cavill is now central to Amazon's push to build it out on screen, with the animated and live-action projects advancing together.
Fans of a good sci-fi series will have to wait for release details, but as Variety notes, both shows are firmly in development.
