Cooper Hoffman jokes graphic sex scenes with Olivia Wilde ‘ruined his family’s life’

The actor stars opposite Olivia Wilde in Gregg Araki’s erotic comedy thriller I Want Your Sex. 

He plays a young man who becomes an assistant to Wilde’s character before their relationship develops into a BDSM-focused affair, with Wilde taking on the dominant role.

As the son of the late Hollywood icon Philip Seymour Hoffman, many were curious about how his family felt about him taking on such a provocative part.

Speaking to No Intervals, Hoffman revealed his mother encouraged him to embrace the role, while his sisters were more concerned about their friends watching it. 

He said: “My sisters didn't like it. My sisters did not like it. My mom is someone who grew up in theatre and experimental theatre and all those things. So, she was like, ‘This is going to be great. You're going to have such a great time. You should go do it.’”

However, his sisters jokingly told him he was “ruining” their lives because everyone they knew would see the film. Hoffman admitted he found their reaction hilarious, saying it was “so real” and “so true”.

Despite the film’s sexual themes, Hoffman says he does not see it as simply a provocative movie. 

He explained: “I think it's very funny. I think it shows sex in kind of like a nice kind of awkward light and it shows these two people exploring this very vulnerable but very fulfilled place together, which is really nice.”
