Great news because Deadpool will stay R-Rated at Disney

Paul Moore

Ryan Reynolds had the best response to the news.

Following Disney’s recent take over of Fox, the Mouse House can now boast about having some of the biggest film franchises in the world.

With villains like Darth Vader, Thanos, the Xenomorph from the Alien franchise and the Predator all now being owned by Disney, it’s time for some “crime-fighting shit swizzler, who rooms with a bunch of other little whiners at the Neverland Mansion of some creepy, old, bald, Heaven’s Gate-looking motherf**ker” to step up.

Yes, that’s right. Deadpool now belongs to Disney and Ryan Reynolds welcomed the news in typical Ryan Reynolds fashion.

With the sequel still being finished, plenty of people were curious about how the Disney takeover would impact some of the ‘darker’ films that exist in the Fox library- Predator, Alien, Deadpool, ‘tougher’ films like Logan etc.

Well, Disney CEO Bob Iger has some good news because in the immortal words of Deadpool: “Daddy needs to express some rage.”

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine. It [Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine,” said the CEO.

In recent years, Fox has shown that an R-rated approach to certain films can pay-off. Deadpool, released in 2016, became the top-grossing X-Men movie ever with $783 million worldwide, while this year’s Logan took $616 million worldwide.

As for Deadpool 2, the Merc with a Mouth returns on  June 1, 2018.
