Netflix price hike

‘Another price hike? For a bunch of filler content?’

Netflix subscribers have said they’re going to cancel their accounts after the streaming platform revealed it would be raising its prices for millions across the UK.

Just months after a launching a crackdown on password sharing, Netflix has now decided to hike its subscription price.

Users will now face monthly fees of up to £17.99 to access the service – an increase of £2 per month.

Meanwhile, the cheaper plan, which features adverts, will increase by £1 a month to £7.99.

The price hike has also been implemented in the USA and France.

It’s going to cost you more to watch shows like Stranger Things

Since the news was announced, many have voiced their anger at the platform for raising prices when money is tight, and have questioned whether the content Netflix provides is value for money.

On X, one person wrote: “I think it is time to cancel. Another price hike for a declining service is just not worth it.”

“This is like the 3rd time in 2 years they’ve increased prices. I’m officially going to cancel. It’s been real Netflix,” another said.

And a third joked that Netflix need to “hurry up with the last season of stranger things so I can cancel this.”

Someone else wondered why the monthly price was being hiked for a “bunch of filler content.”

Another user detailed what they believed was a much more sensible plan, explaining how users could cancel their monthly subscription and still not feel like they were missing out on the Netflix shows they actually wanted to watch.

They wrote: “1. Netflix is 99% s***. 2.  The 1% of stuff worth your time can be watched over the course of one month every year.

“3. Cancel Netflix, sign up for one month a year, and get everything you want from them for $22.99. 4. Buy tickets to indie films with the money you save.'”
