Daniel Day-Lewis officially unretires from acting

Here’s everything you need to know about the three-time Oscar-winner’s new movie.

Daniel Day-Lewis has officially come out of retirement after claiming that 2017’s Phantom Thread would be his final movie.

On Tuesday (1 October), photos were published of Day-Lewis sporting a handlebar moustache and riding on a motorbike with Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) as part of shooting for a mysterious new film.

It has since been confirmed that the movie is titled Anemone and will be directed by the three-time Oscar-winning actor’s son Ronan Day-Lewis, with the father and son having written the script together.

This will be the feature film debut of Ronan Day-Lewis, who is an accomplished painter.

The enigmatic plot synopsis for the project reads: “Anemone explores the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, and the dynamics of familial bonds.”

This is as reports say that Bean is thought to be playing an ex-soldier in the film that is believed to be set in the ’80s.

There is plenty of great talent involved in the movie. Not only is Oscar-nominee Samantha Morton (In America) co-starring in the project, but Ben Fordesman (Love Lies Bleeding) is the Director of Photography, Jane Petrie (The Crown) is the Costume Designer and Chris Oddy (The Zone of Interest) is the Production Designer.

Production companies Focus Features and Plan B are joining forces to make Anemone, with the former’s chairman Peter Kujawski saying in a statement:

“We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator.

“They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”

Universal Pictures International will distribute Anemone internationally on behalf of Focus. It does not have a release date as of yet.

Daniel Day-Lewis has won three Best Actor Oscars for his roles in My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood and Lincoln.

As well as that, the famous method actor has also starred in the iconic films The Boxer, Gangs of New York, In the Name of the Father, The Last of the Mohicans, My Beautiful Laundrette, Phantom Thread and The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
