Crash Bandicoot is coming back to PlayStation and it looks bloody glorious

Spectacular new gameplay footage of the remastered classic has been released.

Finally, some good news in this terrible, terrible year.

A revamped, remastered and rereleased Crash Bandicoot is coming back to PlayStation. The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be released on PlayStation4 in 2017 and features revamped versions of the first three Crash Bandicoot games: Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2 and Crash Bandicoot Warped.

The rerelease was announced at E3 earlier this year, but so far there’s no news on when exactly the game will come out. What we do have is footage of the new game, and we have to say, it looks b e a utiful.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy isn’t a straight remaster – the first game is nearly 20 years old and the original code is close to unusable – but nor is it a total remake. In the words of studio Vicarious Visions (who have been handed the reigns of the Naughty Dog classic), it’s a “remaster plus”.

They’ve more or less kept the original game layout and design inspirations, but have built a new gameplay engine and added new ‘lush and zany art, animation, and audio’. The ‘remaster plus’ will also feature time trials, a new checkpoint system and other new tricks and treats that have yet to be revealed.

If you can’t wait to get your fix of gaming’s favourite marsupial, keep an eye out for his special appearance in one of Naughty Dog’s big new releases – we won’t tell you which, but it takes crash into hitherto Uncharted territories.
