Andy Serkis reading Donald Trump’s tweets as Gollum is superb

Precious.

Conor Heneghan

Just when you thought Donald Trump’s tweets couldn’t get any more ridiculous, listen to this from Andy Serkis.

When Donald Trump became president of the United States, people wondered aloud whether his Twitter posts might become a little less shouty and instead become more befitting of the dialogue you might expect from a man in one of the most powerful and influential positions in the world.

Fat chance.

If anything, they’ve become even more erratic, controversial and unpredictable, to the extent that they are almost beyond parody at this stage.

Almost beyond parody, except when one of the most famous voice actors in the world, Andy Serkis, appears on a major talk show and is asked to read out Trump’s tweets in the voice of arguably his most famous character, Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

Serkis didn’t disappoint when Stephen Colbert asked him to do the honours and as a result, from now on, we won’t be able to read anything Trump tweets without hearing it in the voice of Smeagol himself.

Skip ahead to 3:45 to hear Serkis read out the tweets and listen to the interview in full for an insight into his role as Caesar in War for the Planet of the Apes, which has already been garnering rave reviews.
