Koechner reportedly measured at a .13 blood alcohol concentration and later tested .12 at jail
Anchorman star David Koechner was arrested on New Year's Eve on suspicion of driving under the influence and allegedly hitting a street sign with his car.
The 59-year-old was pulled over by police in Simi Valley, California, at around 3:00pm local time, reports TMZ. Police pulled over the Get Smart actor following reports of a vehicle driving erratically and allegedly hitting a street sign.
Police also informed the news outlet that Koechner blew two tyres before pulling over and failing a field sobriety test. Koechner reportedly measured a .13 blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and later tested at .12 whilst in a Ventura County jail two hours later.
He was released the following morning shortly before 6:00am and a court hearing has been scheduled for March 30.
Koechner was later snapped by paparazzi while pumping gas at a 7-Eleven station. Dents can be seen surrounding the back wheels of his car.
TMZ also notes that this could be the first time police have booked Koechner. They have reached out for comment from the star - but nothing has been reported at the time of writing.
The news of his arrest has caused Twitter to erupt with "Whammy!" which happens to be Koechner's catchphrase in the Anchorman movies in which he co-stars alongside Will Ferrell.
The actor has appeared in numerous blockbusters throughout his life, most notably alongside Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell in 2004's Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and its 2013 sequel.
Koechner would later sign on to star in The US Office series alongside Carrell and a whole host of comedy icons like Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms and Rainn Wilson.
