Adele cancels Las vegas shows days before start

Her Las Vegas residency was set to run until April

Singer Adele has announced that her much-anticipated Las Vegas shows have been cancelled just a day before they were due to start, after logistics issues and covid delays have derailed the schedule.

Talking to her fans in a video posted on Twitter, the 33-year-old singer-songwriter broke down in tears as she regrettably informed them that performances simply would not be going ahead, adding: “I can’t give you what I have right now… I’m gutted.”

Her Las Vegas residence, “Weekends with Adele” at the iconic Caesars Palace – an honour typically reserved for legends of the music business – would have seen her perform two shows every weekend right up until April.

Tickets ranged from anywhere between $85 (£60) and $685 (£500), with the global singing sensation forecast to make more than £500,000 per performance.

However, as she informed her followers that in addition to delivery delays, “half my crew, half my team have come down with covid – they still are – and it’s been impossible to finish the show.”

She went on to insist that she and her team “tried absolutely everything we can to pull it together in time and for it to be good enough”, staying up for over “30 hours” – but that they have sadly run out of time.

While there are some people online who are frustrated by very last minute announcement – one woman told the BBC: “Her lack of notice is astounding. I’m angry and frustrated” – most others have offered messages of support.

Adele assured fans that dates will be rescheduled and that while she could only apologise to those who had flown out to see her, she and her team will be doing their best to make sure the run of shows goes ahead at some point.
