The Simpsons: Hit & Run, an after-school classic!
If there's one game which every person of a certain age would love remastered, it's Simpsons: Hit & Run. Just mere mention of the name has me all glassy-eyed with nostalgia at the wasp-smashing, coin-collecting Springfield carnage.
Well YouTuber and developer Reubs has done the entire gaming community a huge solid and recreated
The Simpsons: Hit & Run in Unreal Engine 5 in one week. The classic game, which became a staple of after-school down-time, became lost in company deals and ownership rights.

"I could technically remake the entire map from scratch," explained the YouTuber,
"But, you would need a team of, like, 100 people. I only have three friends and I'm including my mum as one of those friends so that's just not enough people."
The YouTuber had previously made Skyrim, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto V, and has now shared how he managed to create the beloved cartoon game.
By ripping files from the original game, they were able to stitch together levels and graphics to form a resemblance of the original game. Because the graphics looked awful, Reubs bought the licence to an artificial intelligence software that is used to pump up the quality of images.
Then, using the Advanced Animations Pack from the Unreal Engine assets store, he was able to code a playable character. Because Homer did not match up to the model in Unreal Engine 5, the YouTuber outsourced this job to another developer, Ellen in Sweden.
The User Interface from the original game was used to extract the same menus, icons, and in-game text. They have also been able to add the signature Buzz Cola cards, vending machines, and even boxes for coins.
This is a throwback to simpler times, where gaming was stripped back and full of simple pleasures. Though Call of Duty will still dominate each year, why not get a taste of nostalgia.
