The world is literally on fire, Jeremy

Jeremy Clarkson has been criticised after posting a tweet that ridiculed the nation’s approach to the UK’s first-ever red weather warning.

The 62-year-old former Top Gear compared the UK’s response to that of French authorities who are dealing with wildfires in the south.

“It’s very hot in the south of France but so far as I know, there’s no DefCon 8 level 3 killer death heatwave warning in place,” he wrote to his 7.7m followers.

The tweet was branded “exceptionally stupid” and “insensitive” by other Twitter users as France is suffering extreme heat and furious wildfires. Fires across France, Greece, and Croatia have shaken mainland Europe, leading to mass evacuations and thousands of firefighters being called in to help.

Clarkson’s tweet has since received over 800 quote tweets and nearly 4k retweets, with some users rightly pointing out that Clarkson needs only google “Europe heatwave” to see the devastation.

One person wrote: “This is the kind of ignorant, sick, glib bullshit I am seeing. And sadly from ordinary people who think it’s cool.

“Southern France is facing a massive crisis of wild fires and 140,000 people have been evacuated.

“He’s not funny or cool, he’s a massive bell end.”

Another person wrote: “Can some c**t go to tesco for a big shop n leave jeremy clarkson in the back of the car with the windows rolled up like a massive deformed baby.”

On Monday, Clarkson added to the outrage with a another tweet: “I’ve spent my life working in extreme heat and we survived by having a beer under a tree. Climate change is real. Drink more beer.”
