Ferrell is said to have fallen in love with English football

Hollywood star Will Ferrell has reportedly bought a large stake in one of English football’s biggest clubs – Leeds United.

According to the Sun, Ferrell has followed the lead of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buy deciding to invest in an EFL club.

Reynolds and McElhenney of course are the owners of Wrexham, having guided them from non-league football all the way to League One.

They aren’t the only celebrities from across the pond to have got involved in British football. NFL stars Tom Brady and JJ Watt made investments in Birmingham and Burnley, respectively, and both have made their presences known at the clubs.

Ferrell, best known for his role in comedies such as Anchorman, Elf and Step Brothers, is expected to be expected to be announced as an investor in Leeds by 49ers Enterprise in the coming days.

The actor is already an investor in MLS side LAFC, and has apparently fallen in love with English football.

An insider said: “He loves soccer and has been particularly impressed by the passion of the English game.

“And his aim now is to see Leeds back where they belong — in the Premier League. As far as Will and the 49ers are concerned, this is a serious investment opportunity.”

It still remains to be seen what division Leeds will be in by the start of next season though.

The Yorkshire club take on Norwich in the Championship play-off semi finals this week, with the winner of the tie then facing off against either Southampton or West Brom at Wembley to secure the final place in next season’s Premier League.
